Bratislava

The city of Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia. Bratislava is the largest city of Slovakia located in the southwest part of the country on the Danube River near the Austrian and Hungarian borders, and relatively close to the border with the Czech Republic.

Bratislava is 50 km from Vienna that is 45-65 minutes run by train. The city marks the beginning of the Carpathian mountain range, with the Malé Karpaty Mountains (Little Carpathians), which are part of the Carpathians.

Bratislava’s Area is 367.59 km² and population is 617,049. The population is ethnically comprised of Slovak (85.7%), Hungarian (10.6%), Romany (1.6%), and Czech (1%), and religion wise, the population include 60% Roman Catholic, 10% Protestant, and 4% Orthodox.

Bratislava is the warmest places in Slovakia. The summers are hot, sunny and, sometimes humid, but winters are rather cold, with snow and ice. The popular sporting activities of Bratislava include Football, Rugby, Ice Hockey, and various water sports.

Milan Rastislav Štefánik Airport in Bratislava, also known as Bratislava Airport, is the main international airport of Slovakia. It receives flights from major cities around Western Europe including London, Paris, Rome and Amsterdam. The major airlines fly to Bratislava via nearby Vienna International Airport, but CSA Czech Airlines has direct flights to Bratislava from Prague, and Lufthansa from Munich.
